If you want to learn to play the guitar, you are obviously going to need to have one. If you’re a true novice, you may not have the first idea about how to choose the right guitar for you. Here are a few things to remember while searching for the perfect guitar.

1. Type Wood Used: Please note the type of wood used for your guitar. Heavier varieties such as mahogany, giving more support than woods such as ash or alder. The biggest downside to the guitar which is made of such heavy wood is that they’re actually heavier than other varieties & can take a toll on your back if you’ve to play standing up for long periods.

2. Frets. Pay attention to the # of ties an aspiring guitar has. Guitars with twenty-one bands are more stable than the guitars with twenty-four bands, but if you dream of solo on your guitar so twenty-four bands are more useful.

Strings. Consider the type of strings used on your guitar. If you like to play in low tunings, then you need heavy gauge strings so that strings aren’t too loose. If you solo a lot, then you can easily gauge strings as 9’s, so that string bending easier.

After choosing the right guitar for you, the next thing you need to do is choose the right song to try and learn & play on your guitar. This should be a song you love & you are really familiar with. The song should have 3 or 4 basic chords & preferably 1 that has a slow pace. This is one of the most important factors for learning guitar songs, as it’ll help keep you motivated & inspired.

Instructional Materials
With a guitar & singing in his hand, the last thing you need a song book or a guitar guide that shows you the different chords. A chord is the sound you make by placing your fingers on the guitar. While the fingers of the non dominant hand is placed on the straps on the guitar, not the dominant hand strumming to create sound. You can buy a song book to show you the positioning of fingers for chords or you can find the same information on the Internet. There are many videos that
Show you how to position your fingers on the guitar to the different chords.

To really learn to play guitar, you must dedicate time each week to practice. Ideally, about thirty min of practice three to five days per week is ideal for beginners. Not only will the common practice ensure that the fingers are kept in proper condition to play, but you’ll train your ears, too. If you’ve extra time a day but can not make noise by actually playing the guitar, practice placing the fingers in the correct position for each chord. Even if you only use 1 hand, this is a valuable method of practice as it builds muscle memory & knowledge of the positions you need to know to play.

These are just some tips to help you get started learning to play guitar. Who knows? With a lot of patience, practice & dedication, perhaps you’ll even get the chance to get your videos shown on MTV today too!
