As you may have guessed, the most traditional type of guitar is the acoustic guitar. It was first introduced in 1779 and co-existed with the oud and the lute, both dating back thousands of years before that. It wasn’t until the 1930’s when the electric guitar was invented which is very much like an amplified version of the acoustic guitar. Despite the technological advantages of the electric guitar, the acoustic guitar is still widely used today. If you want to learn to play acoustic, finding others who play it will be easy.

Even now, the acoustic guitar is still the most common guitar used. Possibly it may be because it’s easier to transport, requires no power, and enables professional musicians to do performances, “unplugged.” Due to a lack of an amplifier, the acoustic guitar will not produce a sound as loud as the electric guitar. Still, it serves as a great instrument to express strong emotion through powerful acoustic guitar playing.

Anyone interested in beginning acoustic guitar lessons should have their own personal guitar. Using someone else’s guitar may be too big and bulky or small and light. If the size and weight aren’t just right, learning to play the guitar will be hard and awkward. Whether new or used, acoustic guitars for sale are easy to find. Most every music store carries them. Before purchasing one, make sure the guitar is a perfect fit.

Once you’ve found the right one, you have several options when considering learning how to play the acoustic guitar. You just need to weigh your options and see which learning method will work best for you.

Taking lessons from a private instructor is the most traditional method of learning. If you choose to go that route you’ll need to find someone who’s qualified to teach beginner acoustic guitar lessons. It’s nice to receive one-on-one instructions from someone whom you can ask questions to or get help from when you’re stuck. They can also keep you motivated to learn.

Still this method has its cons. The costs of lessons add up quickly and you are expected to pay on a weekly basis. Also, you must arrange a schedule with your instructor for lessons. Finally, you must drive to and from the training site which involves gas, parking, and packing your guitar.

If personal guitar lessons are not for you, you may consider online guitar lessons. With today’s technology, learning anything online is possible, even learning how to play the acoustic guitar. Of the massive number of sites out there some are paid and others are free. Obviously, the paid sites are better, and though there are free quality sites, they are few and far in-between and not worth the time and effort required to find them.

Paid, online lessons have great advantages. First you only pay a one-time fee and everything you need to get started is in one location. Second, you need not leave home. Third, you’re free to take lessons any time of the day or night, whatever’s convenient for you. Although you won’t be able to ask for personal help, these sites come very close to providing it.

As long as you choose a good source, you will learn reasonably fast and well. You can learn with minimal difficulty if you go about it the right way. This article will give you pointers on how to do that.
